It’s a Long Way to Tipperary Tralee

I have to go to Tralee next week. I have done my best to get out of it – but no joy.
I didn’t realise it’s so bloody far away it is and how hard it is to get to.
My choices are -
- I can drive. According to AA this will take 4 and a half hours. Taking into acccount, traffic, my drowsiness, lack of any sence of direction, my over whelming propensity to get lost and the speed at which I drive when alone and not aware of where I am going this will conservatively take at least 5 and a half hours. So I will have to leave at 4am to get to my destination on time. Then I have to do the reverse getting home.
- I can take a train but this too takes hours and you have to change at Mallow and then get another train to Tralee. The trains will not get my to Tralee on time either and I will have to leave home at 5am again. Not good.
- I can get a bus to limerick and then another to Tralee but I will again be horribly late and viciously ill from travel sickness.
- I can get a Hotel and stay over but this still involves a certain combination of the above methods accompanied with the expense of a Hotel.
Isn’t Tralee a big tourist town? Shouldn’t it have a better transport link?
I think I will go back to avoiding thinking about next week and cross that bridge when I come to it. Why can’t one fly to Tralee?
Edited - as it turns out you can fly to Tralee or Kerry at least – €44 return and it only takes 30 minutes. Score. Tralee here I come!
Is it wrong that I am 26 and this will be the first time that I have been on a plane without a travel partner?

I have giant insecurities about flying… but I did manage to survive a loner flight last week… two whole hours, it’s almost better because I can freak out, without freaking anyone else out!

Ach – I am such a dope! Kerfluferkyjuieldybits! Now I can start freaking out about the drive to the airport!

It is not wrong that you haven’t flown without a partner at 26! Personally, I don’t think its something I ever need to accomplish in my life. There is no fun in flying alone, the fun part of flying for me is breaking the hand of the person sitting next to me when i’m squashing it due to fear!

flying on your own is great! I have no way of justifying this statement but it just is……

I apologise in advance for everything you will encounter in Tralee

@Stella – At least I won’t have anyone to shout at. I hate the process of flying, the traveling on the bandy M50 at 15kph because of never ending roadworks, the parking, the rude staff, the long queues, the restrictions, the wait, the delays, the tiny seats and I am a total demon by the time the flight takes off. So with no poor sod for me to terrorise (oops probably not the best word to use) I might learn to deal with the situation a bit better.
@Manuel – okay. Well i’ll see soon enough.
@Conortje – How did your trip go? You should have flown!

I love Tralee! It takes blooming ages to get there but it’s a good laugh down there. I’ve never flown there – small planes scare the bejeebus out of me. Oh and, I’m 25 and I’ve never flown alone either. Don’t really want to though
Have fun in Tralee!

Thanks Annie – I am now shitting at the idea of a small rickety old plane held together my super glue and elastic bands.
