Hold Me Back
Posted in Blog by: LottiePlease. Someone. Stop Me.
I am sitting at my dining table.
I am supposed to by studying.
I have spent the last hour browsing New York related Sites.
I have calculated how much a week in New York would costs if we were to do everything we want to do.
I have booked The View restaurant.
I have 9 minutes to complete the booking for The Lexington 4 Star Hotel.
I have compared all flight prices.
I have reserved Wicked and Avenue Q tickets.
I have confirmed none of this with my boyfriend who is out for the evening.
I have just emptied (almost) our JOINT savings account.
I am actually shaking with excitement.
I probably should take a deep breath and wait till he gets home.
Shouldn’t I?

Go for it Lottie!
Check out sidestep.com for the hotel though… can often get you better deals than anywhere else, especially if you have a name in mind.
Might I suggest Chicago though? SLIGHTLY more expensive flight, but MUCH nicer than NYC! Ok, I’m a little biased, but you’ll get a lot more bang for your buck. Shopping just as good but cheaper. Theatre just as good but cheaper. Free museums, nicer people. Of course now I’m just gonna throw a wrench in everything!
Go for it, you deserve a treat!

I second what Deborah said. Chicago is a far nicer city, the people are genuinely way friendlier and the city is about 100% cleaner. I’ve been to both NYC and Chicago and I know which one I’d go back to. Although Chicago will be far more expensive accommodation wise too. As for waiting, yes my honest advice is talk to your boyfriend first. Maybe he has secret plans for that joint savings account too

Thanks Debs – I will check that site out. There is an amazing deal on in the Lexington – 600 for 5 nights 4 star. It has to be NY though – I love it and since I was last there (4 years ago) I have been dreaming of going back – I NEED to see Wicked. I NEED to go back to the View _ it’s so incredible. And I love the weather.
@Maz – I do want to go to Chicago. And Boston and Seattle and San Fransisco and back to New Orleans but the savings account doesn’t stretch that far. No that’s a lie – it might but I am too much of a worry wart to use all our savings at once…. I think. I don’t know what that wink means…but I think or plans are the same. I have put everything on hold but I have transferred the approparoiate amount of money from savings into my current account so it will be there for bookings.
OMG Im going to New York. I am so excited. Wohoo!

Oh, look. Unless you have 2.5 litres of wine inside you, you’ve probably made some good choices there. Life is short. Feck it!
September 30th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
I got engaged in New York. I’ll say no more.

October 1st, 2008 at 9:27 am
well..? Did you book it? Sounds mucho exciting! The last time I was there, we managed to get cancellation tickets for Wicked and had to bomb it back to the hotel on Lexington afterwards as we almost missed our flight for it! Totally worth it though.

I’ve been having the same urges. Never been outside Europe. Go Annie – I’m thinking blogger meetup in New York!!!!!
Just remember – savings accounts will be very overrated when the golbal financial system collapses…
October 1st, 2008 at 3:32 pm
@Daddy or Chips – no wine in side me. I should probably rectify that.
@Jo – Yes. Say now more.
@Manuel – I’ll think about it.
@Annie R – Don’t go in November. Wait till January and we’ll have a meet up. On second
thought, maybe we should do Bray first and work from there.
@Morgor – ??
@Rick – You have to try New York. It’s delicious. And the flights are very cheap(ish) at the moment. I’m sure you could convince work that it was somehow related to the show.
@The rest of ye – We’re agreed – Darby O’Gill got his boozy ass home last night at 2am so just discussed the details with him now. Lazy bum!
We are going on second week in January for a week. But my credit card is maxed so I have to wait 5 days for the money to come into my account. Going to see the lovely people in American holidays tomorrow to see if they can give me a good deal.
Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! So NY blogger meet?
October 1st, 2008 at 3:34 pm
Yay! Exciting! but it’ll be freeeeeeeeeeeeezing!
October 1st, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Loving it.
My motto is if you’ve managed to save that much money, then you deserve to spend it on yourself.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:45 pm
My lovely partner in crime and I had been thinking the same time actually… Let’s consult

Well I guess by now you’ve gone ahead and booked it. Four years is definitely a long enough interval between visits. I was there this summer on the way to Los Angeles and it didn’t disappoint. I didn’t go to the view though… Enjoy!
