The Project
Posted in Photo Blog by: LottieA few months back my mum started going through all our old family albums, or more accurately put, all the many boxes and suit cases of old unsorted photos which fill one of the two attics at home. We decided to scan all the photos onto a database for ease of access for future generations and the protect the prints against any unfortunate accidents (by accidents she recalls the fire which destroyed her childhood home and all photos of her before she was 12).
There are literally thousands of snaps and the first batch ma mére sent over to me were around the ‘86-’92 period which she had specifically pulled out for my sisters’ 21st birthday. They were taken on cheap cameras and turned out rather grainy on scanning but for me the sentiment and memories shine through.
Here are a few of my favourites:-
“ We are not the same persons this year as last; nor are those we love. It is a happy chance if we, changing, continue to love a changed person.”
Photo 1: My sister J proving that girls can be tom boys too. Either that or it’s her well practised cat impersonation.
Photo 2: Two of my sisters and I at some wedding. I can’t recall whose wedding it was but I know that the hotel had a glass veranda in which the children spent most of the day.
Photo 3: My sisters, my granny and I on the first day my granny met my youngest sister. Look how happy she looks. I’m told I still smile the same way and yes my hair was always big.
Photo 4: The twins first day of school. Note the funky Garfield jumpers.
Photo 5: Brittas Bay moments before I realised that the tide was coming in and that wet sand is surprisingly heavy.
Photo 6:Just look at the cars!!!
Photo 7: What Halloween costumes used to be. Can you tell what she is? Little Red Riding Hood. I think she had a sign on her back to help those with a less …imaginative mind.

Have hundreds of photos at home myself that I’ve been meaning to get scanned. It’s weird looking back in time like that.

old photos are the best. It’s mad how they sum up a particular era perfectly. I loves nostalgia.
Your hair is amazing btw. Too cute.

Great snapshots of 80s Ireland.
It’s like looking at my own family home, the grainy atmosphere.
Nice.

@GoE – Ah memories. So wried – we could have been childhood friends.

@Daisy – I know! I still can’t control the mane.
@Jo – you think? Really?
@Manuel – Did you like my ode to you? My little waiters outfit? And that wasn’t Halloween!
