Return
Posted in Blog, Movies by: LottieI have been making an effort to return to more regular cinema visits as I have become very lax for going to the movies since I left Dubland and gave up my UGC card. Not because I am too busy with work, college or other commitments but I am just too damn lazy to drive the 23 minutes to Dundrum.
However, I have seen a few movies in the past week and decided in the void of blog inspiration (I was going to go with blogspiration but it sounds a little filthy) to critic them.
Quantum of Solace.
One word springs to mind. FAIL.If this was a generic action movie it would never have seen release. Boring. Poor story line. Cheap action cutting and not nearly enough naked Daniel Craig.
Even as a Bond movie this doesn’t register.
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was more memorable in that at least it had the guts to be spectacularly bad. This was just boring. I think M had more dialog than Bond butI would have to watch it again to be sure and that is not going to happen.

This film hurt. A lot. But in a really good way. I’m a huge Kevin Smith fan, Dogma probably being my all time favourite film so I might be a bit biased but I genuinely can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard at a movie. At one point I seemed to totally forget that I was in a packed cinema when I began to scream “Oh God Oh God Oh God” (comedy remember) aloud much to the disgust of the woman beside me. But she got hers. One word. Poo.

Can’t believe you’d give up your cinema card! I left Dublin too but really you only need to go twice a month for it to be worth your while. It’s defo a pain in the butt when you don’t get to use it though. It’s the best invention ever if you live local!!! Think I lived in the cinema there for a while. All I was missing was my slippers and my pillow,

I had the exact same reaction to Zach and Miri, it’s been AGES since I was laughing loud enough to embarass myself, but luckily the crowd in the cinema enjoyed it just as much as Jen and I did, so no rude looks or tuts. Loved this movie. Ace soundtrack too. I heart Kevin Smith.

ah i liked bond although as a bond film it was a bit pants but if he was called Seamus McBond it would of been better not up to scratch as a bond film! casino royale was way better.

We went to see Zach & Miri on on saturday. Hillaroius. And THAT scene was classic. You know THAT scene. Right?

I’m still laughing!

@Amanda – It really pained me. i hung onto it for a year after we moved to Greystones but it was realistically just a waste of money. Dundrum was closer and we wouldn’t go there because “we had our cards”. If only they would put a Cineworld in Wicklow. I can’t see it happening.
And on a good point student tickets in Dundrum are only €7
@Sinead – I forgot to mention that. The Soundtrack rocked!
@T-Cup. McBond. Seamus McBond. It doesn’t quiet have the same ring to it…
@KC – GO.SEE.IT.NOW. Jay (from Jay & Silent Bob) is in it and he’s brilliant. I think I need to see it again.
@Stew- Yes. THAT scene. As Darren said – i think we missed the two scenes following that one as we were laughing so much.
@Darren – Me too. White.

I went to see the Zach and Miri film … not as good as I’d hoped, but good nonetheless.
Funniest character for me was the black guy, I was shrieking with laughter at the very very end after the credits …. Martin Scorsese (sp) reference etc

R – At the “very very end”? Was there even more after the home made video piece? What did I miss?

I thought Zack and Miri was good, but a long way short of being great. It seems to me that an awful lot of American scriptwriters still think it’s outrageously funny to pepper their scripts with ‘cock’, ‘pussy’,'cunt’ and references to anal sex. It’s not funny or shocking any more.
And the poo bit was just shit. Ahem.
