2008 was all about doom and gloom.
The financial markets were in dire crisis. House prices fell. Banks foreclosed. People lost their jobs by the truck load. We said NO and wished the curse of a thousand broken mirrors on ourselves, our children and our children’s children. George Lee was constantly on the telly and one day in September I believe that the sky actually fell. Recession, depression and so forth ad nauseam.
But despite all the toils and tribulations our nation went through in 2008 the blogosphere appears to have remained somewhat impervious to the melancholy of it all.
Here are just a few positive reactions to 2008.
Many describe it as the best year ever and I would agree partly with that. Others went through mill a few times but rather than adopting the ever so catching “misery guts” stance they came took the year for what is was and have come out the other side smiling or at least looking forward with a positive attitude.

2008, you were ace. I’m ending this year on a high, having well and truly Gotten My Shit Together over the past twelve months. I’ve also had some extraordinary experiences this year courtesy of this very blog, which still blows my mind a little.
I think I can safely say that 2008 has been one of my better years so far and definitely the one filled with most change for me-ever!
From the suckiest 2007 to the best year of my life. Some move! 2008 saw me finishing up in my day job and working for myself and being diagnosed with MS. No no, this was good.
2008…. A good year? on one hand no business is ever an easy journey I suppose… but for the people I have had the pleasure to shake hands with this year; for those who stood taller by my side [DG/GC/DK] when life threw and odd one my way…one should really say it was a great year.
This year has been unimaginably busy and difficult but it all ended up turning out well.

So, please! Have a very happy christmas and from Emma, Freddie – my dog, and I, we hope 2009 is as good for you as 2008 has been for us.

Maybe it wasn’t such a bad year after all
This brings my total countries visited for 2008 to 9, with Switzerland as the second new tick after Cuba. In the meantime I had some wonderful beery breaks like Amsterdam where I discovered the unalloyed joy of ‘t Arendsnest and Copenhagen for the magnificence of the European Beer Festival. So the answer to both questions for me is just this: drinking more good beer in other countries.
As for myself, a year half as good as 2008 would be a very good year indeed.
For me personally 2008 has been a bit of an enigma wrapped up in a mystery. An abundance of drama and turmoil. Plenty of funerals. Even more weddings. Tragedy and comedy in plentiful supply. Lots of highlights. No shortage of travelling. New places. New faces. And plenty of friendly old ones.
Plus something I’m proud of was published in a fine book alongside some serious blogging luminaries. So not a bad year all told. I will leave it with a smile.
2008 was a great year for me, I met a lot of new friends (you know who you are), took on an epic road trip to the US, helped win a Web Award for Dublin City Council and generally had lots of fun.
Further tests at a different doctor thankfully ruled that diagnosis out, but that’s where M.E. was first suggested to me.

2008 has been an amazing year. There’s been events like the…
The year ends.
Intense high and low points both professionally and personally but a year I’ve universally loved here, on the blog.
2008 was the year of great news, new friends, writing and ideas. 2009 looks set to be the same and more – with adventure thrown into the mix for good measure.
There’s always room for hope.
2009? I say bring it on!

My summation of 2008 was the most nondescript possible:
Hell, then bad, then boring, then boring, then boring, then fantastic, then boring, then wonderful, then great, then terrifyingly boring, then a nightmare, then over.
Fact: the recession will have no effect on me

2008 should be taken out the back and shot.

yeah, i had a good 2008 too.
Like B’dum, the recession is actually good for me cos it’s reducing the price of everything and i don’t have any stocks or property (or money) so it’s ok.
