How Many Units Do you Consume?
Posted in Blog by: LottieFollowing on from the comments and responces to this post I am hiring an electrician to check out the meter at home. I am re-blogging a comment. Now I know that that has to be a major blog fox paw but it’s about time I got to the bottom of this.
@ most of you – So I rang the ESB again. They have told me to get an electrician to come out and if there does appear to be a fault with the meter that we have to get an electricians cert and then the ESB will come out and repair it and reimburse us for the cost of the electrician.
I am trying to get someone to look at it next weekend. In the meantime I will do that test again to turn off everything at the mains (Jo the mama’s idea) and see if the meter is still running.
The bill is telling us we used 1973 units of power in two months – so it seems very high.
Would people mind letter me know what their unit usage/premises size is for a similar period?

I usually have a couple of pints on a Friday after work and then maybe something on Saturday night, maybe wine with a meal. During the week, very little if anything.
Oh THOSE units….

@Holemaster – Hey. This is a serious scientific inquiry. Hic. Don’t you go intoxicating the results.

Ok *dons scientist white coat*
I’ve dug out our last two bills. On the November bill we had used 264 units (this was an estimated bill) and on the January bill we had used 350 (not estimated).
So even if you take into account the estimate and average it out, we still only averaged 307 units per two month period during that time.
We’d have been home most days during those time periods, more than yourself & D during the week anyway.
Hope that helps

We would have a pretty similar set up to you guys, it’s a small two bed apartment (about 600sq foot) and we’d have two laptops going the whole time, plus tv’s (yes two of them sometimes) we also have storage heating which basically means that all our heating is on the esb bill as well. I pulled out our Nov – Jan bill which would also have all the xmas lights etc on it and it came to 1209 units (€193). This is a particularly high bill since we were at home a lot during the xmas hols and had the heating on up high too.
Best of luck with it, hope you get it sorted!

Dude, I totally went downstairs to get the bill. I wouldn’t do that for just anyone. Ours is from December to February and it’s €244.51. The units used are 1234 and it’s a five bed house with two electric showers and four laptops on the go!
