Running Up That Hill

When I was 18 I reluctantly agreed to pose for a photograph and before you go getting any ideas, it wasn’t one of those types photographs.

At the time my hair was unnaturally long. Red curls flowed hungrily down my back and rested on the crest of my bottom.  This was of course before the day of a thousand tears and if the wind caught it the right way it could blind you from three feet away. Then there was this young photographer full of romance and drama who had an unhealthy pre-occupation with my pre-Raphaelite tresses.

I think it was about this time of year when I stood on the rocky ruins of Black Castle, profiled to the sea, wearing a willowy emerald green-satin dress borrowed from the sergeant’s daughter.  Posed in the broken arch, perilously close to a long fall into a watery grave, the chill of the wind burning my skin under the light material, I felt so peaceful and calm.  So  peaceful and calm and so very, very cold.

Today I sat on the beach watching the waves rush up towards my feet.  The wind whipped my now oh-so-sensible shoulder length hair wildly around my face.  I tugged tightly at the collar of my winter coat and thought of that wonderful green dress and wondered whatever happened to that photograph and that romantic young photographer.

    Poor Darren.

    @Jo & WR – My mum thinks there’s a copy i the attic at home. Apparently there’s three boxes of sutff I left behind in the dust of my leaving. Ah memories. Expect many “when I was” blog posts soon.

    @Darren- Meh!

    @Grannymar- Sounds much more so than it was but the memory is nice.

    @Holemaster – Hey!

    I think you should go through all those boxes you left in the attic asap. You never know what you might find!

    And I’m so happy to hear you’re going to see RENT! They got a standing ovation last night. It’s just my luck that DCU Drama decide to put on RENT when I’ve left the country, never mind graduated. You’ve no idea how disappointed I am that I can’t see it. I’m living vicariously through everyone else.

    I miss the stage…

    Gorgeous memory. I have one taken years ago of my and my other half by a friend of hers doing a photography course. She was getting us to pose in laods of silly poses but one of them just ‘worked’. One of my fav photos – not least cause i look half way decent in it!

    @Lyndsay – I did a BAD thing! :(

    @Peter – Some of the best photos are the totally spontaneous ones or those that you don’t even realise are being taken. My profile picture is one of those accidental ones that I just love ( thank you Rick)

    @Elf – But it would be nice to find all the same.

    @Ciara – *blush* *blush* Mwah!
