Out on a School Night

Borrowed clothes and last nights make-up are the themes of today.

I would do all sorts of things for a tooth brush right now and the mop has most certainly seen better days but I’ve battled off those pesky unproductive thoughts of going home to a warm shower and my bed and decided to soldier on through.

I think a trip to Boots and Doon-ayes will be in order at some point but for now a large Americano and a bar of Dairy Milk should do the trick.

Whose idea was it to have Paddy’s Day on a Tuesday anyway?

I know what conscience is … it is not what you told me it was.
it is the divinest thing in us.
don’t sneer at it, harry, any more – at least not before me.
I want to be good.
I can’t bear the idea of my soul being hideous.

Today things feel awkward, a little heavier than than they should.

The juxtaposition of the tracks makes me sad. One man digging his ball out of the sand while the other rattled the widget for the last drop of comfort.

The ache in my feet reminds me of the socks I didn’t wear inside my boots.

The drizzle turns the ink of my newspaper to tears and it cries for the senseless tragedies of it’s pages.

My presence in a dreary humid Bray reminds me of the home I left for over four hours ago.

The delayed buses all arrive at once and in the scramble I spill my change onto the ground. My finger narrowly escapes severance.  I think of my car, warm and comfortable and at home.

The once bright, smiling, golden boy who would wave to me on the school bus stands at the traffic lights. Unsmiling. Unwaving. It reminds me that nothing good ever lasts too long.

The flashing battery light on my phone reminds me of the calls I have to make. The calls I don’t want to make.

A short simple text tugs on my chest and reminds me of the friend I miss.

The obese woman moving towards me sits down, crushing my leg and I give the devil on my shoulder the all clear.

But as we pull away, I caught his eye and smiled and all at once he waved back in reply and all was golden again.

Time really does fly by. Today is my One-Year Bloggiversary and what an year it has been. In the past 12 months, I have met the best people in the world, amazing, funny, kind, intelligent. I have somehow managed to accumulate just over 300 posts and over 2500 comments (no wonder I have a mountain of work sitting on my desk).

Thank you everyone for being so nice and keeping me company and particular to the more seasoned bloggers for not laughing at me.
