Got to agree with Maxi and Sarah,

I have little faith that our nation will do anything.

It’ll be a case of “sure that was ages ago”, “sure that was normal back then” (even though it wasn’t) , “sure my father always voted FF so i’ll do it too” , “sure isn’t mass a great thing”.

Sometimes I wonder if democracy is the best form of government…

@ Everyone – He spoke so well and really held himself together – I fell apart listening to that. It truly showed the extent of damage to abuse and neglect caused when an intelligent man of 60 odd years is still effected and haunted by it.

And as he said, the victims aren’t looking for money, it’s justice.

I know these cases were brought to light years ago – but there’s an intolerance in the air of the nation at the moment that people just won’t accept excuses anymore. Hence the widespread outrage and support for victims.

Who can execute change? I don’t know. I’ve been reading up on the candidates and I’m none the wiser – But Fianna FAIL have to go and a new breed of politics instituted which demands accountability and truth.

FF didn’t carry out these attrocties but they helped sweep them under the rug which is just as bad. It’s a kick in the teeth.

I have to agree with Sarah. People will still go to Church and vote Fianna Fáil, sure yer man said it himself “You’re turning me away from voting Fianna Fáil, which I’ve done so my whole life”

Why would he continue to vote for them?

No one will deliver this change. The country doesn’t want change. Or at least I don’t see any evidence that they do. This is not the first time clerical abuse has been discussed by the nation, it won’t be the last, and in the end the population will vote with it’s feet. I know it’s anecdotal, but since the “economic downturn” the churches in my area have been stuffed. Plus, everyone is still lining up like mad to get their children communioned and confirmed. Irish people like Catholicism, no matter what, no matter what.
