I’m Not Making Light…
Posted in Blog by: Lottie…But Final Destination much?
An Italian woman who arrived late for the Air France plane flight that crashed in the Atlantic last week has been killed in a car accident.
Johanna Ganthaler, a pensioner from Bolzano-Bozen province, had been on holiday in Brazil with her husband Kurt and missed Air France Flight 447 after turning up late at Rio de Janeiro airport on May 31.
All 228 people aboard lost their lives after the plane crashed into the Atlantic four hours into its flight to Paris.
The ANSA news agency reported that the couple had managed to pick up a flight from Rio the following day.
Related LinksIt said that Ms Ganthaler died when their car veered across a road in Kufstein, Austria, and swerved into an oncoming truck. Her husband was seriously injured.

Final Destination indeed. Unfortunately I watched that film before a flight to Prague when I was younger. I still feel uncomfortable ripping off the tag to my suitcase …

spare a thought for friends or relatives searching for reports of Ms. Ganthaler’s death online and coming across your post. it’s insensitive and irresponsible.

@Rosie – It’s irresponsible to point out a bizarre albeit very unfortunate coincidence arising from a true headline news story? I don’t agree. I suppose that depends on personal senstivities.

so link to the story without making a glib reference to the plot of a schlocky horror. your “…But Final Destination much?” makes for a crass rehashing of the story.

@Rosie – As I said, personal sensitivities. We all have different views of what is distasteful insenstive or crass to blog about.
I came across the story and call me callous but the “glib” parallell came to mind. I’m my own conscience here – I don’t report or edit myself and I certianly wouldn’t consider telling anyone how to or what they shouldn’t put on a personal blog. But if you are personally offended that is entirely fair, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Makes you believe in fate and predestination even more than I do already. If it’s your time to go it’s your time to go…

That’s freaky dude!

I don’t really see any problem with the above post.It did make me think that some things are meant to be. I do however find it insensitive when people put personal details about their relationship on their site which others may find upsetting. My 2 cents.

Or to clarify:
I don’t really see any problem with the above post. It did make me think that some things are meant to be. Everyone will find different things to pick at. For example i find it insensitive when people put intimate details about their life/relationships online which others may find upsetting.Hence i stop reading. If you don’t like it then don’t read it.

There was a couple who were late for the flight and kicked up a big stink and demanded to be accommodated and even tried to used diplomatic influence to get on. They didn’t get on the flight. Very lucky for a pair of cu…

I thought of Final Destination as soon as I heard this story so you are only posting what others are thinking/saying!

I would’ve thought of Final Destination too, as soon as I’d read that. I might have said so to other people. But I wouldn’t have put it on my blog for anyone to read. It’s not offensive to the average person, but try inserting the name of someone you love in place of Johanna Ganthaler and then tell me you mightn’t be just the tiniest bit upset if you came across this piece by Googling their name.

Andrew, have you actually tried to put her name into Google?
The first result is a story on Huffington Post:

What does everyone in comments talk about? Final Destination.
Second result?

Final Destination.
Third result is:

Blah, blah, blah…
I’ve scanned the first ten PAGES of Google results (I couldn’t be arsed going any further) and this page is nowhere in sight. I wouldn’t concern yourself about her family being upset by this small corner of the interweb.

everyone else is doing it? ah sure, that’s grand so!
June 16th, 2009 at 12:00 pm
@Andrew & Rosie – I see the point you both are making but there is no reference to the Lady’s name in the Tags for the post as it’s merely a link to the news story. I can’t imagine this blog would even come up in the first hundred pages of a Google search if at all.
@Rick – You gave up after only 10 pages? Where’s the dedication there?

@Lottie Well, fifty or so. After that I started losing the will to live…
