Come To A Marvelous Party

The Penultimate Challenge
To have a party. Yes, seriously, that is it. An actual party with actual cash monies. The 5th Awesome Tour of Sydney challenge focuses on Sydney culture and nightlife, each contender must throw a Sydney-themed event. It can be any type of event but a Sydney drinking isn’t a valid topic unfortunately.

The deadline is tight, Tuesday 14th September being the last day for submissions. So once again, I need your help. Beach Volleyball in the rain? Sydney-food themed dinner party? A Pool party?
Some inspiration:
And yes, you are invited.

Off the top of my head:
1) The Oz national anthem is called Advance Australia Fair. Have an Australia Fair – find a space, like where the market is in Temple Bar – and give out Aussie beers and foods, play Aussie music etc
2) Home & Away party – go out to the airport and throw a party of people emigrating off. Just cos it’d be a nice thing to do.
3) Aussie Rules Party. Invite 36 people and have a football match. Bunch of Aussie beers for the winners?
4) Outback Party. Apparently Oz is the best place to go stargazing cos you can see thousands of them (this fact via @eoinp). Find a beach and have a midnight bbq and some stargazing. Cheap, fun, and we’ve just about got the weather at the moment.
Do I tickle your fancy? Or any of the rest of you?

A BBQ?
Or a Kylie and Jason party where people have to come in couples where one is Kylie and the other is Jason?
Oh and Lottie, I’m just letting everyone in my blogroll know I’m having another competition to make up for being such a lame blogger recently!!! Work has been manic and I’ve been sick and I just haven’t had the time to devote to all, so hopefully this makes up for it: http://chicknamedhermia.wordpress.com/2009/09/10/i-have-a-treat-for-you-all/

You could try something off the wall…
A strictly Ballroom party (different from a Prisilla or an “Australia” party and its not a BBQ.)
You may need to watch the movie again to get the parent’s foods right, but it involves dressing up and some dance.
Maybe even dance lessons?
Or…
A Sullivans Party, thing 40/50 glamour for when they dress up, and maybe a uniform or two
or…
Prisoner Cell Block H (if he doesn’t bring you flowers anymore)

Ooh, how lovely is Sinéad’s idea of the Home & Away party? That would be a really sweet thing to do.
Otherwise my (somewhat lame) suggestion is a Priscilla, Queen of the Desert party – complete with sequins, cross-dressing & karaoke.
I was going to suggest a general “Down Under” theme… but thought better of it.

I have cousins in Australia, none online at the moment, but started some research on events this time of the year there, this is what I’ve found:
September 28th Kings Park Festival [flower theme]

September .. Floriade [flowers again]

September 26th Australian Rules Football day [?!]

Not much help..
